Luna EclipseChapter One

My feet burned through my flip flops as I walked up the concrete stairway on a particularly hot mid-August morning. The black sandals I wore were still warm as the ground beneath me changed from scorching concrete to cool linoleum tile. The doorway I passed through bore the letters “WELCOME NEW STUDENTS!!!” in very bright red paint outlined in black, the school colors. I was more nervous than excited to be here, with the maroon and grey brick walls and floors.
